Teachers and support staff in 35 OSSTF/FEESO Districts have been without a contract since August 31, 2014. OSSTF/FEESO served notice to bargain, both at the central table and with all school boards, in June 2014. It has now been almost a year since we requested that the bargaining process begin.
It has been more than six years since OSSTF/FEESO has had an opportunity to negotiate collective agreements in these Districts or at the provincial level, as the most recent collective agreements for teachers and support staff were imposed by the Ontario government in 2012 through Bill 115 – repressive legislation that stripped away bargaining rights and gutted a number of contract provisions.
Despite our ongoing efforts to get school boards to the bargaining table at the local level, and to get the provincial government and various school board associations to the central table as mandated by the new School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, the process has dragged on at a very slow pace. OSSTF/FEESO members have been more than patient, but have become increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress over weeks and months.
The following represents the up-to-date status of labour action and negotiations at both the local and central (provincial) levels:
The following Districts / Bargaining Units are engaged in labour action involving a full withdrawal of services:
District 13 – Durham District School Board: Teacher and Occasional Teacher Bargaining Units
